We are dedicated to bringing Americans useful information
on health care and health insurance issues – especially
those that will help patients and their families deal with
the rising cost of medical care.
Health insurance and health care are topics that are never
far from the minds of Americans. Will we be able to pay
for the care of an aging population? Will the federal government
ever pass a meaningful prescription drug bill? Unemployment
is on the rise; how will these new out-of-work Americans
pay for health insurance? These are just a few of the issues
that America grapples with.
While our politicians debate and bargain, while bureaucrats
produce their gloomy spreadsheets, and while the corporate
lobbyists romance them all, we should take some hope in
the fact that there are unique individuals, private companies,
(and yes, even some politicians) who are actually taking
steps that amount to more than just the same-old, same-old.
These are the kinds of people whose stories we will tell
– and how their innovations can help you and your
family stay healthy and on budget.
This week’s feature is
about a man seeing a seemingly intractable problem, devising
a solution and caring enough to do something about it. It
is about the spirit of innovation (and, as you’ll
see, how it sometimes runs in the family) and even hope.
That man is Steve Neeleman, an Arizona
MD, who from his vantage point within the medical community,
came to the conclusion that, “healthcare
in America is on the rocks.” But thankfully that
grim realization did not lead him to despair – quite
the contrary. Read his story you’ll be inspired as
you learn about a health insurance program that could let
you pay lower premiums, give you more complete coverage
and let you save on your tax bill (!) and let you save for
retirement (!!). And the “runs in the family”
part mentioned above? Let’s just say that part is
“up in the air.”
Our other story is a bout a truly
hot button issue: the unmanageably high price of prescription
drugs how many Americans are looking north for help. Read
about how patients have lead the charge in devising new
ways to make their medication affordable – and how
Washington is slowly catching up.
